North America Chinese Dance Competition
Another aspect of PDC's curriculum sends a delegation of dancers to Vancouver, Canada every other year to participate in the Annual North American Chinese Dance Competition hosted by the Lorita Leung Dance Company. So far, the Phoenix Dance Chamber has won either first or second place in all categories entered. In the Fourth Annual North America Chinese Dance Competition in 1996, PDC received the Best Modern Chinese Dance Award for White Cloud Trilogy, choreographed by Diane Letoto with the highest number of points. In 1997, PDC won the Best Chinese Folk Dance Award and in 2002, the Best Chinese Contemporary Dance Award. The group has graced the competition with their Aloha spirit while showing the international participants that Hawaii has a strong cultural interest, demonstrated by their level of dance proficiency.
